In December, we had the distinct honor of participating in the Preston and Steve Camp Out For Hunger Event with Acme Markets. This was the twentieth anniversary for this event and it was the best year yet! There was 1,679,823 pounds of food collected…that’s 839 Tons! There was 2.2 million meals donated to Philabundance to feed the hungry. This event covers almost 50% of their needs for a full year. For more information, see www.philabundance.org.
You may have noticed the pre-bagged groceries in your local Acme stores? They were marked $10 per bag of groceries and the collection boxes were overflowing in the stores. Acme started their official pre-camp out drop off locations at every store many weeks prior to this event. Acme starts collecting in late October and it continues right up to the event. They also set up a food tent for the duration of the Camp Out and supported the tent with volunteers from 6 AM to 10PM every night.
Acme is Your Favorite Local Supermarket and has been for over 125 years. They continue to do great things in every neighborhood they touch.
